Tribal Fusion Belly Dance is a modern form of belly dance which has evolved from American Tribal Style®, American Cabaret, and also blending many styles of dance. It frequently incorporates elements from Popping, Hip Hop, Egyptian Belly Dance, as well as traditional forms such as Flamenco, Balinese, Odissi and other folkloric dance styles.
Michelle has been dancing since she could walk, and before finding her passion for Tribal Fusion Belly Dance, she was primarily trained in Ballet. She studied at various company schools around the country, including the Boston Ballet, Virginia School of the Arts, and was part of the trainee program with the Joffrey Ballet. As a Western New York native she trained, and apprenticed under Jill Squitieri, and later went on to teach at the Jill Squitieri Academy of Ballet. She also has explored many other forms of dance including Jazz, Modern, Flamenco, and Tango, all of which she incorporates in her art now. Michelle is constantly traveling the country to study with world renowned teachers such as Zoe Jakes, Moria Chappell, Amy Sigil, Mira Betz, Kami Liddle and many more. She also completed the requirements for The 8 Elements Initiation by Rachel Brice in March 2013.
All of our classes will focus on the foundational movements of Tribal Fusion Belly Dance, including proper posture, arm placement, and muscular isolation. We will learn and break down the basic vocabulary as well as create fun isolation patterns and combinations. We will also do a good deal of stretching, and strengthening, to condition our bodies for these movements. All levels are welcome, this class is designed for brand new beginners as well as experienced dancers who want to brush up on their technique or start adding more layers. Wear comfortable, stretchy clothes where I can see your alignment, bring water and a yoga mat, if you have one.
